Eyelid Surgery

A Blepharoplasty is the formal name given to the procedure that improves the cosmetic appearance of the eyelids. More common names are eyelid lift, eyelid surgery, cosmetic blepharoplasty and cosmetic eyelid surgery to name a few. Patients who benefit from Eyelid surgery-Blepharoplasty usually state that they have surplus skin covering the upper eyelid fold. This extra may give a puffy or swollen appearance. Patients often say that they are told they look tired or sad.

A frequent complaint is difficulty applying makeup. Patients who complain of upper lid heaviness and also have droopy eyebrows and forehead creases may also benefit from a brow lift. Patients do not like the excess skin on the lower eyelids which often has a “crepe paper” look with fine lines and wrinkles. Others complain of the bags or bulges of fat as well.  These changes also give the appearance of tiredness or sadness; and if the upper lid changes are also present combine to make it worse.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) can remove the excess skin from the upper eyelid and conceal the incision within the natural fold of the upper eyelid.  Fat may also be removed if need be.  The lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is most often performed by an incision just below the lash line. As with Upper Eyelid Surgery, in Lower Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty), the excess skin and fat is removed.
